ISIS beheadings. Ebola. Drone strikes. Michael Brown. Global warming.
The world can be a pretty dreadful place, but for two minutes, a high school football player named Apollos Hester made it all better.
During a post-game interview by perky Austin Time Warner Cable sports reporter Lauren Mickler, Apollos gave an incredibly positive, motivating and inspirational speech about teamwork, doing your best and support.
“But it took guts, it took an attitude. That’s all it takes. That’s all it takes to be successful is an attitude.” Apollos offered up more encouragement to viewers:
“Do it for each other, you’re going to do it for yourself, you’re going to do it for us, and you’re going to go out with this win…It’s a mindset, yes ma’am, Hey, you can do anything you put your mind to. Never give up on your dreams. Keep smiling. No matter what you’re going through, you fall down, just get up. If you can’t get up, your friends are there to help you up, your mama’s there, your daddy’s there, God’s there, hey I’m there to help you up, you’re there!”
Apollos has of course gone viral (the YouTube video has over 5 million views) and has been interviewed by a number of news agencies. He’s motivating and inspiring people all over the world (and has even been Songified!).
“Hey, it’s gonna be tough. It’s gonna be hard. You’re going to go out there, you’re going to battle, you’re going to fight, you’re going to do it for one another. Do it for each other. You’re going to do it for yourself, you’re going to do it for us, and you’re going to come out with this win.”
Apollos Hester is just what the world needs. “And it’s an awesome feeling!”
