Rap artist JB Da Fat Boi has shared a moving message of sympathy and hope with me, one directed to the victims, families and friends of the recent Connecticut school shootings. I’d like to share it with you:
“Once again, my heart goes out to all the families in Connecticut. I personally know how it feels being on the other side of a bullet, and every time I hear about a shooting or a life that’s been taken, it sends a chill down my spine.
Although I sometimes feel ‘why me?’ I know that even though I made it through an almost fatal shooting, God has personally stepped into my life to save me from the path I was on. But still, I suffer from the aftereffects of the shooting. I’m in pain every day, I do my best to take it in stride and not complain about it. There’s always a person or families that have it way worst than I do.
God has personally given me instructions and guidelines on how to conduct my life. Those rules he gave me I cannot break. What does that tell you? It tells you that I’m so Blessed by a Gracious God that has given me a second chance at life. He has given me a second chance to make it count, to make a difference, to be a new voice in our music culture, to be a voice in our communities.
That’s my position in this new path that I walk today. I just ask America and the world to do your best to keep the peace. It’s so easy to make a wrong decision, but that wrong decision could be costly. Take it from me, I know from experience. My job is to pass this knowledge on to the nation’s people. That’s the way I see it.
God Bless the families in Connecticut, you have my deepest sympathy. My name is James Alvin Barnes Jr. This is my message to the world.”
